Captain PURU's journey began as an interesting idea—a Pudgy Penguin with a charming sailor's hat, bought with the purpose of becoming the mascot for the PURU Transgascogne Professional Sailing Race. The goal was to bring some fun, excitement, and color to this traditional sporting event through a unique NFT. However, getting a traditional sailing race to accept a penguin, let alone an NFT, as their mascot was no easy feat. It took determination, creativity, and a bit of boldness to convince the organizers to see the potential in Captain PURU.
But we did it! And it turned out to be a tremendous success. Captain PURU truly illuminated the racing village with his presence, not just as a digital art piece but also as a 6-foot inflatable character that became the heart of the event. Kids, adults, sailors, organizers, and workers alike were drawn to this colorful, friendly penguin, who brought a sense of joy and liveliness to the event.
Captain PURU didn’t just blend in; he became the star of the show, creating hype, laughter, and unforgettable memories for all involved.
Inspired by this overwhelming reaction, Captain PURU’s story took on a new life. For my daughter’s birthday, I decided to write a children’s storybook centered around Captain PURU’s adventures at the race. It was a heartfelt project, filled with the same spirit of fun, imagination, and exploration that Captain PURU embodied during the event. What started as a personal gift quickly grew into something bigger—an opportunity to share Captain PURU’s message with other children and families. This led to the book being published, allowing many more kids to enjoy the penguin’s delightful journey.
